HISTORIC TIMELINE

Founded in 1916 in the early days of the automobile culture in Japan, Isuzu has contributed to the development of the Japanese automobile industry for over 100 years as the top brand, particularly in the commercial vehicle segment. 1916

Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd. and Tokyo Gas and Electric Industrial Co. initiated plans to build automobiles.

1922

Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd. completed the first domestically produced Wolseley, model A-9.

1928

Developed the "Sumida" CL model, which offered excellent power and efficient fuel consumption.

1934

The truck, manufactured up to Ministry of Trade and Industry standards was named "Isuzu".

1936

Developed Japan's first air-cooled diesel engines, the DA6 and the DA4

1937

Tokyo Automobile Industries Co. Ltd., the predecessor of Isuzu Motors Ltd. was established with a capital of one million yen

1959

TL 2-ton payload compact truck, ELF was unveiled.

1961

Unveiled the TK model 1.75-ton payload compact truck, ELFIN.

1963

Unveiled the KR compact truch, WASP.

1972

Released the KB I-ton payload compact truck, FASTER. Begins exporting KB trucks to the United States

1979

Launched the I-ton four-wheel drive truck, FASTER-RODEO

1981

Introduced the compact four-wheel drive vehicle, RODEO BIGHORN.

1989

A new type of recreational vehicle, the MU, was introduced in Japan and the United States.

1995

Launched MU-WIZARD, a sports-utility vehicle in Japan and the United States

1997

VehiCROSS, an all-round sports-utility vehicle, was introduced in Japan.

2002

Isuzu Pickup underwent a complete makeover in Thailand and became the D-Max, through the collaborative efforts of Isuzu and General Motors.

2013

Launched its SUV MU-7 in India.

2014

Isuzu D-Max SPACE CAB and SINGLE CAB Flat Deck were launched in India.

2016

Launched Made In India ISUZU D-MAX Regular Cab. Launched Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, India's first Adventure Utility Vehicle. Isuzu Motors India manufacturing plant at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, was inaugurated, Launched Indian Made ISUZU D-MAX S-CAB.

2017

Launched ISUZU mu-X, the All Muscle All Heart SUV

2018

Launched 2018 V-Cross. A Breed Apart. Launched 2018 mu-X, More Muscle More Heart SUV.

2019

Launched 2019 V-cross Make Heads Turn!

2020

Launched 2020 D-MAX SUPER STRONG BS-6 Model & D-MAX S-CAB BS-6 Model

2021

Launched The All New HI-LANDER - The All Rounder. Launched 2021 MUX BS-6 Model & V-CROSS BS-6 Model.

2023

Launched The all new SCAB Z. SCAB Z India Luxury Utility Vehicle.
